This home was a mix of 1950’s era design and a 1980’s renovation in parts, but had good bones. The new homeowner wanted to create a warm, bright look with an updated version of “Rustic Italian Country” style. She loved the look of rich wood and details, but without the heavy ornateness typical to this style. The look was created with hand-scraped hardwood, antique washes on the beadboard cabinets, simple travertine backsplash, and rich coloured floor tile. Due to budget restraints the existing kitchen layout was kept rather than the original plan of pulling down walls to open the kitchen to the patio doors. The new plan ended up optimizing the one back bedroom into a lovely home office for the homeowner so she can finish writing her novel!
